Sorayda Avila is a distinguished harpist who graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky, where she studied under the renowned harpist, Professor Vera Dulova. She earned both a Master of Arts (1983) and a Doctor of Philosophy (1985). Additionally, she holds the esteemed title of "Associate of the Royal College of Music" in London, United Kingdom (1989). Avila has garnered numerous accolades from international competitions and festivals, including the National Harp Competition of the USSR (1984) and the Spanish music award "Andrés Segovia." She has performed in concerts across the globe, including Venezuela, Russia, Bulgaria, England, Belgium, Denmark, Algeria, Portugal, Yugoslavia, Greece, Norway, India, China, and Ukraine. Her concerts have been broadcast on various radio stations and television networks worldwide. Avila has participated in several international festivals: the 1st Latin American Harp Festival in San Jose, Costa Rica; the 15th Festival in Estoril, Portugal; the 2nd World Harp Festival in Cardiff, Wales; the 7th El-Atilio Festival in Venezuela; and the 5th European Harp Symposium in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Soraya Avila recorded a compact disc with the Agrupación Camerística Isolda (1989). This disc, along with her other solo recordings, has garnered praise from international critics. Notable works include "Entre dos Mundos" (1986) featuring a transcribed repertoire dedicated to Nicanor Zabaleta, and "Senderos" (1998), published by the University of Curaçao, which showcases her work as a transcriber and arranger of Ibero-American music. In 2016, Avila earned a Doctorate in Musicology from the Complutense University of Madrid. Avila has served as a jury member for various competitions, including the International Harp Competition in Moscow (1997 and 1999), the First International Vera Dulova Festival (Moscow, 2000), and the 7th Chamber Music Competition in Arles, France (2001). She is a teacher of Celtic harp and pedal harp and is involved in pedagogical activities at the "Katarina Gurska" Center in Madrid. She has also participated as a faculty member in the Magistralia summer courses. Since 2004, Soraya Avila has been the artistic director of the Iberian Chamber Music Competition with Harp and heads the Camerata Complutense in Alcalá de Henares, as part of Juventudes Musicales. For 25 years, she has served as a professor at the Katarina Gurska Center in Madrid.
