Pedro Pablo Camara

Pedro is a musician and art researcher engaged in sound experimentation. His research areas encompass concert stage formats, as well as the emerging possibilities of saxophone sound and gesture. In his constant quest to make the saxophone his own voice, he strives to equip the instrument with techniques that adapt to each specific musical language, preventing undue stylistic conditioning by the instrument itself. His profound knowledge of the evolution of the saxophone's repertoire and capabilities is crucial for preserving the essence of every piece he performs.
His training has always been as comprehensive and broad as possible. This perspective has led him to collaborate closely with prominent musicians in various fields and locations: he studied saxophone with Marcus Weiss and Vicente Toldos; he honed his chamber music skills with F. Rados, C. Martínez-Mehner, R. Schmidt, E. Feltz, and S. Azzolini at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel (Switzerland); he holds a PhD from the University of Valladolid, a Bachelor's degree in Musicology from the University of La Rioja (Spain), and a diploma in Music Pedagogy from the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain).
He has participated in festivals such as the International Cervantino Festival in Mexico, the Darmstädter Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, the Klangwerkstatt Festival, and the Infektion Festival in Germany, the Impuls Academy in Austria, the Segovia Classical Music Festival in Spain, as well as the Adelboden Festival, the Montreux Festival, and the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland.
He also collaborates with larger ensembles, such as the European Philharmonic of Switzerland, the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony 1 Orchestra, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He has worked with leading conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle and Pablo Heras-Casado.
His continuous development of musical language has resulted in an extensive body of new works, born from close collaborations with composers such as Paul, Sánchez-Verdú, Escudero, Méndez, Franck, Tora, and Alonso.
He has won over 20 international competitions, including the BOG-Competition (Basel), the Orpheus-Competition (Basel), the KHS Musikpreise (Bern), the Nicati de Luze (Lausanne), the 38ème Concours de musique Lyceum Club (Lausanne), and the X and XI Montserrat Alavedra Chamber Music Competition (Barcelona).
He is currently working on a series of recordings as both a soloist and chamber musician, and has already released five CDs. Notably, he is committed to stage and interdisciplinary formats, participating in premieres of productions at the Berlin State Opera, the Teatro Real in Madrid, and the Vienna MusikTheater.
Pedro is a professor at the Katarina Gurska Higher Center in Madrid. He has been invited as a guest lecturer for masterclasses at the Musikhochschule Munich, UdK Berlin, KUG Graz, UNAM CDMX, Escuela Reina Sofía, Hochschule für Musik Basel, HKBU Hong Kong, and others.
He is an artist for Selmer Paris, Vandoren France, and Silverstein Works.
